I Must Tell Them Now - A fact-finding workbook for Older People
The book has been prompted by the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (coming into force in 2007***) and which requires that the past history, attitudes and beliefs of a person should be taken into account if someone else has to make decisions for that person if that person cannot make the decision for himself or herself. How many of us have ever written down comprehensively information about our past and our wishes for the future? How many of those who may have to obtain information about someone else would know where to start? In its ninety plus pages this workbook prompts the user with a host of questions ranging from the details of their name, family and assets through to issues of their fears and phobias and their wishes for future care and not omitting such mundane details as what a person likes to drink and how they like to dress.
*** On the 18th December 2006 HM Government announced that only part of the
MCA would come into force in April 2007 (IMCA and the Code of Practice and
Wilful neglect offences). The remainder (Office of Public Guardian, new
Court of Protection and Lasting Powers of Attorney) will not come into force
until October 2007.
